Know What Works for You – Apostle Joseph Ziba

“And Saul’s servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king’s son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?” 1 Samuel 18:23 KJV

God doesn’t want ‘copy-cats’. The world also doesn’t celebrate anything or anyone who isn’t original. The reason for the failure of some of you to do or achieve anything significant in the world is that you often copy what others are doing. You think what’s working for others will also work for you. That’s not always the case.

God created you the way you are: He gave you the face you’ve, the skin color you’ve, and you’re called by your name since He wants you to be unique. There’s no one like you. Therefore, search for what’s so particular with you.

It’s the discovery of what’s unique with you and working on the same that’ll distinguish and put you on the ladder of success. You may not have what others have, but you’ve something special which if used you’ll leave a legacy in the world.

In the verse above, David was poor and lightly esteemed— he was at ‘zero’ in the eyes of many people. Thus, he wasn’t fit to marry King Saul’s daughter.

However, no child of God is a nonentity. An opportunity arose when he had to use what worked for him— his strength— to get what he wanted.

King Saul demanded for 100 fore-skins of his enemies, the Philistines, for dowry (verse 25). Being passionate about what he wanted, David brought 200 of those instead. He was granted the king’s daughter for a wife in the end (verse 27). David used his strength (all the days of his life) to acquire all he wanted— it worked for him.

What is it that works for you? Don’t look at your neighbors. Focus on yourself; discover what God placed in you and execute it. If you do, success and legacy will be your lifestyle!

Precious Father, thank you for the precious treasures you endowed in me. Open my eyes to see them and recognize what works for me. In that way I’ll live a life of profit and significance. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
