An Expose on Thanksgiving – Apostle Joseph Ziba
An Expose on Thanksgiving – 21st October, 2018
WITH APOSTLE JOSEPH ZIBA
There is always something that’s set before you in God. There’s need for you to open your eyes to that which has been there in the mind of God for you.
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Romans 1:21 KJV
God is revealed to us through what He made and there is something about God in each one of them. You, therefore, need to open your eyes to see God in His creation.
Thanksgiving is an appreciation. You can’t thank God if you don’t see what He has done. Unless your eyes are open to see the works of God, thanksgiving won’t be easy for you.
The above Scripture seals this point. It stipulates that although (the people of old) knew God, they couldn’t give Him thanks because they were blind to His works.
When you loose sight of that which God is doing your imagination is darkened and your heart is hardened. Consequently, you don’t see the place for His glory.
If your stand in God is not right you will fail to see the hand of God (His works) in your life. You, then, will rob God of His glory— you won’t thank Him. Contrary wise , if you are rightly standing before Him you’ll attribute all your achievements to the works of His grace.
And this is the law of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which he shall offer unto the Lord. Leviticus 7:11 KJV
In the Old Testament a peace offering was an offering of thanks. It was categorized into three and one would offer as they chose as follows:
1. Freewill Offering
This was offered at the expense of one’s choice. One decided to give by themselves without being asked to. It was an offering of appreciation to God without regard to any specific blessings.
2. Votive Offering
This was made after God’s blessing which emanated from the vow you made to Him. In other words, one could make a vow to God that if He gives them something they’ll of the same offer God something. A good example is the story of Hannah found in 1 Samuel 1.
3. Offering of Gratitude for an Unexpected Blessing
4. Offering for Enhancing Connection with God
This was usually offered by worshippers— those who wanted to enhance their connection with God.
You see, thanksgiving is one of the ways through which you can develop intimacy with God. Therefore, capitalize on it; thank God everyday and strengthen your connection with Him.
If he offer it for a thanksgiving, then shall offer with the sacrifice of Thanksgiving unleavened cakes mingled with oil ,and unleavened wafers anointed with oil,and cakes mingled with oil of fine flour ,fried. Leviticus 7:12 KJV
“Leavened” speaks of the fresh— the part that you play with your human effort. “Unleavened” speaks of God’s grace.
Therefore, the verse above implies that although there will be certain things that you will do with your human effort, don’t set aside the grace of God that’s enabled you to accomplish them. Hence thank God always (Ephesians 5:20).
There is nothing that comes to you without God agreeing to it. Therefore, let thanksgiving be your lifestyle. Let it flow out of your lips no matter the fiery darts that the devil throws at you. You must realize that you loose a lot when you fail to thank God.
Why is it Necessary to Thank God?
Jeremiah 30:16-19 outlines two reasons:
1.Thanksgiving maintains the momentum of victory in your life. Therefore, if you don’t want to stop in your journey of victory bring thanks before God.
2.Thanksgiving is the secret of multiplying, increasing and amplifying the works of God.
Thanksgiving humbles your life. Through thanksgiving you recognize the grace of God. Hence God increases and multiplies your life for “God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.” (1 Peter 5:5).
How Do You Give Thanks?
1.Thanksgiving can be given as an order or a commandment
Throughout the Scriptures there’s are several instances where God demands you to give Him thanks. As such doing what God requires demonstrates your love for Him. (John 14:21).
2.It can also be given as a freewill offering
You can also choose to make thanksgiving to God your lifestyle. People are different because of the choices they make. Therefore, if you make thanksgiving lifestyle, you’ll surely be different— God will honor you.
